SFINX: Making an Impact on the Music World

SFINX, one of Madison Records’ newest distributing artists, is ready to make his mark on the music world with unique style and personality.

It isn’t often you see a drummer go solo, but that’s exactly what SFINX did in January 2021. After a couple of years working with a band, touring and playing basically the same type of thing to the same type of crowds night after night, he felt the repetitiveness beginning to cramp his creativity.

“Being part of the band was a great experience,” SFINX says. “It was the first time I really got a taste of everything, the touring, signing deals, and being in and out of the studio. But eventually I realized I was looking for something more, I just wasn’t sure what. After lots of thought, and talking things out with my wife, who’s always been supportive of me and my work, I decided to break out on my own,” SFINX said.

What’s it like being a drummer going solo? For SFINX, the transition came pretty naturally. He’s been playing and making music all his life. “Like many kids in the South, I started out young playing music in churches,” he says. “My brother played guitar, so I started on the drum kit to do something different.” From there he went to playing in rock bands in high school, and then got into heavy metal in his 20s. Through it all, he gravitated to the creative side of things, writing, arranging and mixing original music in addition to his work playing and performing in bands.

That creativity shows through in the way he approaches his solo career. Wearing a mask that gives off slight horror-movie vibes, in a PG13 kind of way as SFINX describes it, he has created a unique performance persona. He keeps fans constantly entertained by putting out an average of one new release per month. And with each new song, he wipes his social media platforms clean, so that all you see is that one song, with its own style and message.

The newest song from SFINX just released at the end of October, “Lose Control,” features the heavy drumline that sets SFINX apart, and Jason Wisdom on vocals. “Jason has such great talent with heavy metal music, and really brought out the excitement of this song,” SFINX says.

In addition to Wisdom, SFINX teamed up with Rainych, who has 2.2 million subscribers on YouTube, for vocals on “Bury Me,” Mona Gonzales who has 17.2 million followers on TikTok for vocals on “Reasons,” and AJ Perdoma of The Dangerous Summer for vocals on “When You Were Young.” “Even though I write my own music and I wanted to get away from the band scene, what I love most is working with other people,” SFINX says. “I love working with vocalists, other songwriters, and producers to collaborate. It’s all about finding someone that has a passion for what they do and bringing it together to make great music.”

“Lose Control” is also the first release from SFINX’s new partnership with Tanner Hendon and Madison Records. “Being hooked up with Madison Records is a great move forward for SFINX. Having someone to partner with and take on some of the administrative aspect opens up more time for me to be creative,” SFINX says.

“Lose Control” is full of the heavy drumline you would expect from a solo drum artist. It’s also got the heavy rock sound that SFINX thrives on, and was part of what drew him to Madison records. “Tanner and I have similar philosophies when it comes to music, and that comes through in our work together,” SFINX says. The partnership is more than just administrative, as SFINX and Tanner have spent time in the studio together, mixing, mastering and collaborating. “I started SFINX because I wanted to have fun making music, and Madison Records has given me that opportunity.”
